Pixar's next film already has an unfairly good cast
It’s always a bit unfortunate when big-name celebrities take all of the high-profile voice acting roles away from actual professional voice actors who would almost certainly do a better job, but it’s hard to argue with the cast of Pixar’s Onward. As reported by Collider, the movie will star Chris Pratt and Tom Holland and Octavia Spencer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, all of whom are famous enough to carry an animated movie on their own. We don’t know much about the movie itself, though it’s apparently set in a “suburban fantasy world” and revolves around “two teenage elf brothers.”
A press release also included quotes from director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae, and while they don’t tell us anything about Onward, they do sound a lot like the sort of things a teacher would put on a little actor’s report card. For example, Pratt “brings equal parts huge heart and fantastic humor to his character,” Holland “has an infectious charm and sincerity that makes you root for him in every character he plays,” Louis-Dreyfus “brings a warmth and loving side to her character,” and Spencer can simply “do it all”—though there’s also “depth” and “humor” that she “brings to her character.” Good job, everybody. We’re all very proud of the charm and humor and warmth and depth that you bring to your characters.
Anyway, Onward will be in theaters on March 6, 2020.
