R.I.P. Tim Very: Manchester Orchestra drummer dead at 42

Tim Very, longtime drummer for Atlanta rock band Manchester Orchestra, has passed away. “The most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life,” bandmates Andy Hull, Chris Freeman, and Andy Price shared on social media. “We’ve all been dreading sharing this news as we are still in absolute disbelief.” Very was 42 years old. No cause of death has been revealed.

Very joined Manchester Orchestra in 2011, replacing Jeremiah Edmond, Benjamin Homola, and Len Clark and becoming the band’s longest-tenured drummer. He played on their last three studio records, Cope, A Black Mile to the Surface, and The Million Masks of God. He also appeared on the band’s last release, 2023’s The Valley of Vision EP. Very was an accomplished session multi-instrumentalist and producer, and he co-founded a Georgia film production company named Super Canoe with Drew Beskin and Stephen Payne.

Manchester Orchestra also shared about Very: “Tim was instantly likable and interacted with everyone he met with kindness and warmth. His laugh was infectious and he immediately made people feel invited and encouraged. He had an undeniable light that was only matched by his dedication and love for the craft that he was clearly put on earth to do. No words can ever do him justice. Please know, if you are someone who loved Tim, he loved you too.”
