Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden aren't letting the Bond rumors go to their heads

Actors! They put their shoes on toes-first and consume oxygen just like the rest of us. When the pressures of work bear down, they, too, focus on the business of their daily lives. Sure, there’s the fame, the money, the free haircuts (we presume); but who among us doesn’t make sure to still get dinner on and take the dog for walkies when our husband is up for one of the biggest action roles in the history of movies? Take Saoirse Ronan and her husband Jack Lowden: She’s busy playing Linda McCartney in Sam Mendes’ series of Beatles biopics, while he stars in one of streaming’s busiest and most popular spy shows, Slow Horses—and may also be up for James Bond in Denis Villeneuve’s new 007 picture for Amazon MGM Studios. But don’t let the dizzying implications of that fool you; as Ronan has reminded us, they’re just regular folk living their regular lives. They just like to pretend to be adversaries from time to time. Also, a normal thing!

Still, the question of Lowden potentially playing Bond looms over the married couple, like nailing down holiday plans or deciding what kind of food you’re in the mood for tonight, honey—those kinds of things. “I mean, we’re getting on with our life, to be honest,” Ronan said in an interview with The Associated Press to promote her new film, Bad Apples—which, again, is a regular thing people do every single day. “We have plenty of other things to be dealing with. It’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house to be honest; the dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made. We’re more focused on that. Jack’s on Slow Horses right now, and he’s having a good time on that.”

As for Lowden’s co-workers on Slow Horses, some of them can’t help but express their neighborly support for the jolly good fellow. Like series star Gary Oldman, who made a stir in September when he said Amazon’s search for the new Bond was over, only to soon after clarify he didn’t know anything about Bond, and leave him alone. Through it all, Oldman’s endorsement of Lowden to play a superspy who drives a car with twin-mounted machine guns remains, because that’s what normal people do for their fellow normal friends. “Gary Oldman thinks [Jack] is James Bond, which is its own thing,” Ronan said when AP broached the Bond subject. Yet Oldman’s support in this matter, like anything else in everyday life—sitting in a chair, smiling with mouths—is perfectly normal and relatable!
