Selma’s Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo are making a Hurricane Katrina movie
Selma director Ava DuVernay and star David Oyelowo enjoy each other’s company so much they’ve decided to make another movie together, Variety reports. The duo will reteam for an as-yet-untitled project described as a “love story and murder mystery during the time of Hurricane Katrina.” (This will actually be DuVernay and Oyelowo’s third film together; besides Selma, they also made the 2012 romantic drama Middle Of Nowhere, for which DuVernay won the Best Director award at Sundance.) The film will be written, directed, and produced by DuVernay, with Oyelowo in talks to produce as well as star. How DuVernay’s approach of combining a recent, politically charged disaster with a fictional story will affect the film’s as-yet-hypothetical Oscar chances remains unknown.
