Seth MacFarlane says a fourth season of The Orville has already been written

Last scene exploring the cosmos in 2022, Seth MacFarlane's sci-fi series, The Orville, is looking for the right time to return to Earth.

Seth MacFarlane says a fourth season of The Orville has already been written

With the new season of Ted on the way and the 24th season of Family Guy continuing Stewie’s quarter-century-long mission to kill Lois, Seth MacFarlane probably doesn’t need another job. After all, we’re only one month away from celebrating the one-year anniversary of his ninth studio album, Lush Life: The Lost Sinatra Arrangements. Nevertheless, the always-working MacFarlane provided an update on his long-dormant Star Trek riff, The Orville, which last charted the cosmos in 2022. Per The Hollywood Reporter, which spoke to the actor, writer, director, animator, and song-and-dance man on the red carpet for Ted season two, MacFarlane is looking to jump into the captain’s chair again. “Season four is written,” he says. “It’s just a question of when we have the time to produce it.” MacFarlane says that “10 scripts are done,” but due to all those aforementioned commitments, MacFarlane admits, “I’m the problem.” MacFarlane says he has to wait until he can make The Orville his year, “with all the other stuff we have in the works. But we can hit the ground running when it happens.”

Originally on MacFarlane’s home network, Fox, for two seasons, The Orville jumped to Hulu for season three in June 2022. Though MacFarlane said at the time that he’d “love” for the show to return, and the “entire cast is hoping for it.” However, due to the show’s “ambitious budget,” which, he says, is “no more ambitious than half the other streaming shows on television,” it would require a lot of fan support to get season four into orbit. He later told THR, “All I can say is that the show has not officially ended.”
