Watch Brittany Howard and Shaboozey help bring Sinners'

Only two of the five songs nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Academy Awards got a performance slot during the telecast. The first one was “I Lied To You” from Sinners, which immediately set a very high bar for any performers to follow. In the film, “I Lied To You” begins as a party at a juke joint before taking on a surreal, timeless direction, bringing in performers from Sinners‘ past and future.

The performance on the Oscar stage took a similar tack. Beginning with Miles Canton, who plays Sammie in the film, fellow cast members Jayme Lawson and Li Jun Li joined him on stage. Joining the performance was also musicians Brittany Howard, Shaboozey, Alice Smith, Buddy Guy, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Eric Gales, Bobby Rush, songwriter Raphael Saadiq, and dancer Misty Copeland. There were also a whole bunch of other dancers dressed in costumes from decades past, and Jack O’Connell even tried to crash the stage, but he wasn’t invited in. Check out the performance below.
