Pop culture-wise, the 2025 calendar has been quite full this year. We’ve seen the Golden Globes, Grammy, and Super Bowl, and now we’re rolling into one of the year’s more unique events, SNL50: The Anniversary Special. There’s already been tons of fanfare around Saturday Night Live‘s half-century celebration, but we have some idea of how the special might be structured from the last decade’s 40th anniversary special. That means: lots of stars, lots of performances, and of course, lots of returning alumni, as announced on Monday

The newly announced guest appearances span eras—though, with a few exceptions, we’re mostly looking at the original ’70s cast and the 2000s guys. An NBC press release heralds the return of Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, Chevy Chase, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Fred Armisen, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin, Jason Sudeikis, Jimmy Fallon, Kate McKinnon, Kenan Thompson, Kristen Wiig, Laraine Newman, Maya Rudolph, Molly Shannon, Pete Davidson, Seth Meyers, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Will Ferrell, Will Forte “and more.” Maybe more of the ’80s/early ’90s crew (folks like Dana Carvey, Mike Meyers, Nora Dunn, David Spade, Tim Meadows, Cheri Oteri, etc.) are included in the “and more.” Dan Aykroyd is notably the only living original cast member not mentioned in this star-studded lineup, but we can’t imagine he’d be sitting out of the 50th… right?

Previously announced guest stars for the special include some longtime friends of the show (like Tom Hanks, Steve Martin, and Paul Simon), but for a 50th anniversary celebration the big names that have been announced so far skew heavily towards more recent SNL history. That includes people like Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, and Kim Kardashian, all of whom made their first appearances on the show in the last five years. Even Dave Chappelle, who seems to have become a major SNL figure, only hosted for the first time in 2016. Perhaps recency bias is par for the course since they did a whole big anniversary celebration 10 years ago. Regardless, there’s sure to be an excessive amount of nostalgia on display.
