Peter Parker must remind the world who he is in Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer

Peter Parker is back, and he’s grappling with a world that has forgotten about him. Right away, we know this can’t be our world—the actors Tom Holland and Zendaya, at least, could not be less forgotten—but the world created at the end of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. But years have also passed in the MCU, and both Peter and MJ seem rather depressed when we pick up in the new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, even if the latter doesn’t seem to fully know why.

An official synopsis for the film reads:

Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.

It seems like that new threat—or, at least, one of them—will be Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, who faces off against Spider-Man throughout the trailer. Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner also returns for this latest MCU outing, along with Jacob Batalan’s Ned Leeds. Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, and Michael Mando join the gang for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which opens in theaters on July 31.
