Netflix announced Squid Game will return on June 27.

Squid Game already teasing first look at final season

Fans of Netflix’s brutal, violent Squid Game had to wait years between seasons to satisfy their bloodlust. (Or, alternately, their appetites for class commentary.) Luckily for them, the second and third seasons filmed back-to-back, so the wait time won’t be nearly as long. In fact, on Thursday Netflix revealed the premiere date for the third season: June 27, 2025. And just a month after the second season aired, the streamer is offering a Squid Game final season first look (below). 

Per a press release from Netflix, the third season will pick up where the second left off, exploring “the choices Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) will make amidst overwhelming despair. As the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) plots his next move, the surviving players find their decisions leading to increasingly dire consequences with each round of the deadly games. This season promises to push the limits of suspense and drama, keeping viewers glued to the action.” 

The second season followed Gi-hun as he made his unlikely return to the deadly games, this time with the intention of bringing the system down from the inside. (Spoilers ahead for the second season finale.) Unfortunately, all of his attempts failed, including a climactic armed uprising that was thwarted by the Front Man, who was secretly embedded amongst the players. The third and final season will be the “second chapter of Gi-hun and Front Man’s showdown,” writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk told Netflix’s Tudum. Is Gi-hun “still going to believe that he will be able to persuade others and leave together or put an end to the game?” Hwang teased. “Or will he give in and become a completely different person? Someone just like the Front Man, who thinks, ‘What can I change?'” You can check out the Squid Game final season first look below.
