St. Vincent’s Annie Clark to make her directorial debut in horror anthology XX

Under her musical pseudonym of St. Vincent, multi-instrumentalist Annie Clark has given us many weird and wonderful things. Just recently, there was her fourth, self-titled album, a blissfully funky cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Emotional Rescue,” and even a stint as a waitress in her sister’s taqueria. Point is, Clark is an ever-evolving and unpredictable artist, and now she’s (temporarily) putting down her custom Ernie Ball guitar and trying a new pursuit: Film director.

Clark is set to make her directorial debut in the upcoming all-female horror anthology XX, produced by Southbound’s Roxanne Benjamin. There’s no word yet on what Clark’s segment will be about, but according to The Wrap the directors were free to do anything they wanted, as long as their story was a) in the horror genre and b) had a female protagonist.

Clark is taking the spot previously occupied by American Psycho’s Mary Harron, who is presumably busy working on her own upcoming film about the Manson family murders. Still attached, however, are Rue Morgue editor-turned-filmmaker Jovanka Vuckovic (also making her directorial debut), Boxing Helena’s Jennifer Lynch, and Karyn Kusama, whose exceptionally crafted The Invitation was released in theaters and on VOD last week.
