Star Wars unveils the cast of its Han Solo spinoff movie
Grab your inhalers, Star Wars nerds, because Lucasfilm has unveiled our first look at the cast of its upcoming ”young Han Solo” spinoff film. The announcement was made today over Twitter, linking to a story on the official Star Wars website that says the movie started filming yesterday at London’s Pinewood Studios and gives this preliminary synopsis:
The movie will explore the duo’s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian.
And there’s young Lando himself, Donald Glover, doing his mom proud alongside Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo (he’s the one in the leather jacket, obviously) and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. Joining them are Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, whose roles are all still shrouded in secrecy:
And what a clean-cut gang of young smugglers and scoundrels they are—except for fun uncle Woody Harrelson, who looks like he spiked his Bantha milk at the canteen that morning. Note that Westworld’s Thandie Newton, who is also playing a mystery role in the film, isn’t pictured. Also of note is that 6’10” Finnish basketball player Joonas Suotamo, who body doubled for Peter Mayhew in The Force Awakens, will be stepping into the Chewie suit once again for this movie. Hopefully Mayhew dry cleaned it before handing it over.
The as-yet-untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie narrowly makes its escape into theaters on May 25, 2018.
