Stephen Colbert auctioning off one of his portraits
For those whose parlors could use a touch of ironic self-aggrandizement, Comedy Central and Stephen Colbert have announced via press release that Colbert will auction off one of the several portraits of himself on March 8, with proceeds benefiting school arts programs through DonorsChoose.org. The painting, titled Portrait 5, Stephen(s), is a collaborative effort by several big names described as “a noted work of portraiture attributed to the host, enhanced by the artistic contributions of Shepard Fairey who spray-painted it, Andres Serrano, who Sharpie'd it, and Frank Stella who glanced at it”—so it has considerably more cachet than just being a piece of pop-cultural ephemera. Good luck to bidders; something tells us this will go for a considerably higher price than your average Seth Meyers In Repose.
