Taron Egerton, James McAvoy, and Alicia Vikander are teaming up on a new conspiracy thriller, Deadline reported today. According to the publication, Armando Iannucci wrote and directed the film, and it will be shopped at the American Film Market, an upcoming industry event for acquiring, developing, financing, and distributing independent film and TV. The film will reportedly be produced by Kevin Loader, who worked on a few of Iannucci’s movies, including The Death Of Stalin and The Personal History Of David Copperfield. The movie is so under wraps that we don’t even know the title or any details about the premise beyond it being a thriller.
As Deadline noted, none of the actors currently attached have ever worked with Iannucci. The Scottish writer-director previously earned an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for In The Loop, a political satire starring Tom Hollander and Peter Capaldi. In addition to co-writing In The Loop, Iannucci also directed it. The filmmaker is also known for creating the popular HBO political satire series Veep, which ran for seven seasons and starred Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the titular (and fictional) vice president of the U.S. Iannucci served as the showrunner and executive producer for the first four seasons. Vikander has previously shared the screen with both Egerton and McAvoy in separate films. In the 2014 movie Testament Of Youth, Vikander and Egerton played siblings in England in the 1900s during WWI. Then, Vikander and McAvoy played love interests in the 2017 thriller Submergence, based on J.M. Ledgard’s novel of the same name. This upcoming movie will mark the first time Egerton and McAvoy have co-starred, although people compared Egerton’s performance in the 2026 survival thriller Apex to McAvoy’s in M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller Split.
