The end may be near for From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series

From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, based on the 1996 Robert Rodriguez cult horror film of the same name, may be nearing the end of its run after three gore-soaked seasons. Deadline is reporting that the supernatural crime series’ future is in limbo, with its cast, including lead actors D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz, being released from their contracts just before the airing of the season three finale on November 5. Deadline speculates that “the options on the actors were up before the network was ready to make a decision on the future of the series,” and that El Rey will make a final determination on the show’s fate in 2017.

When Rodriguez launched El Rey, an English-language cable network aimed at Latino audiences, in 2013, From Dusk Till Dawn was one of the channel’s splashy original offerings, a program with built-in marquee value to draw in viewers. While it outlived Matador, another original El Rey drama, the series could end after its current season.

This may not sound like encouraging news for fans of the series, but Deadline points out that there may some hope for the franchise yet. From Dusk Till Dawn could return, as “a limited series or miniseries,” keeping the current cast intact. And even if from Dusk Till Dawn: The Series sputters to a halt after three seasons, fans still have the original three-film franchise to content themselves with.
