The internet is riddled with dangers for teens, but one of the rarely talked-about risks of life online is the phenomenon of accidental fame. This can occur for any number of reasons, but it usually happens when someone innocently uploads a video of themselves doing something silly because they want to share it with their friends or save it for posterity, only to wake up one day to realize they’re the new Star Wars kid or Tay Zonday. It’s too early to tell, but this could potentially be the fate of a group of impressionable teens who dared to create a live-action version of the classic SpongeBob SquarePants episode “Pizza Delivery.”
Posted by the YouTube channel MegaIceTV, the eight-minute video went largely unnoticed when it was uploaded a year ago, but has started to rack up the views since being posted by Reddit user hmph_ in the /r/DeepIntoYouTube subreddit. In addition to some impressive green screen work and an Oscar-worthy Squidward performance, “Pizza Delivery” bears all the hallmarks of a video made by teenage boys: the inability to stop laughing throughout entire scenes, poorly framed static shots, and an insistence on never doing more than one take. But, in the end, it’s just a bunch of buds having fun online with a thing they like. It’s the embodiment of innocence on the internet.
Keep an eye on their YouTube channel to see if this modicum of fame goes to their heads. Or, at the very least, watch some of their other under-viewed content, most of which is pretty weird and some of which is pretty good.
