Clayface shape-shifts from Alan Tudyk into Tom Rhys Harries

Despite putting in a stand-out performance as the shape-shifting Gotham-based supervillain on Harley Quinn, Alan Tudyk won’t be starring in the upcoming Clayface movie.

Among the first movies making headway in James Gunn’s DC cinematic universe, Clayface has cast its face. Per Deadline, Tom Rhys Harries has landed the role of the infamous, shape-shifting supervillain that terrorizes Gotham, specifically Batman, with his special morphing muck. In a recent interview, Gunn mentioned that Clayface’s script was “so fucking good,” and he and WBD chose Harries, who starred in Guy Richtie’s The Gentleman, from a list of young thespians that includes Jask O’Connell and Tom Blyth.

Harries has big clay shoes to fill. For the past six years, Alan Tudyk has voiced Clayface on Harley Quinn and the spin-offs Kite Man: Hell Yeah and, most recently, Creature Commandos. Tudyk’s version of the character as a grandiose and idiotic aspiring actor is one of the best and funniest performances in the latest incarnation of DC animated comedies.

Written by Mike Flanagan and directed by James Watkins, who directed the American remake of Speak No Evil, the film has a horror pedigree for a reason. Earlier this year, it was reported that the film would be a Hollywood horror story about a B-movie actor who uses a special supervillain serum to Clayface himself in hopes of landing better roles. It’s just a shame we won’t get to hear Tudyk overact that transformation on the big screen.

Clayface is aiming at a September 11, 2026, release.
