Unbreakable gets a theme song, thanks to Kimmy Schmidt
Unbreakable may be having a mini-moment. First, there was the resurgence of its auteur, M. Night Shyamalan, with his new film, The Visit, and TV series, Wayward Pines. Then came Patton Oswalt pitching two sequels to the original film as a way of deepening the mythos. And now, thanks to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the 2000 film finally has its own catchy theme song.
Super Secret Show created “Unbreakable Bruce Willis” using footage of the Shyamalan movie coupled with the manic, auto-tuned theme from the Netflix original series. It works surprisingly well, despite the fact that the “females are strong as hell” line doesn’t exactly jibe with the film’s content (although one could argue Robin Wright does exhibit a lot of personal strength in putting up with her estranged superhero husband’s shenanigans). It’s a mashup based on surface similarities, but it does present Shyamalan’s film in a new jaunty light despite its gray and grim color scheme.
