Lily James is still hanging in there, baby. Over the weekend, Vertical acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed remake of Cliffhanger, based on Sylvester Stallone’s 1993 hit. The film, which reportedly cost $100 million, stars Lily James in the Sly spot, with Pierce Brosnan spotting as her film father—though we assume he’ll be revealed as the John Lithgow-style villain.
Cliffhanger was to be a blockbuster offering from Row K, which distributed its first film, Gus Van Sant’s thriller Dead Man’s Wire, earlier this year before completely imploding. It has since sold off the rights to much of its upcoming slate, including Maude Apatow’s directorial debut, Poetic License, to Sony Pictures Entertainment and this here Cliffhanger remake to Vertical. Despite Row K’s financial meltdown, the company will still distribute its rom-dram Charlie Harper later this month.
Cliffhanger is now set for wide theatrical release next spring. Here’s the synopsis:
