Though not the first record label to dedicatedly document the music coming out of Memphis, Goner Records has served as a bastion for the city’s noise-injected garage-rock. One of the bands it’s recently taken to is Nots, a fuzzy four-piece that takes a page from the book of Mind Spiders (or maybe Devo, without all the nervous tics) to create its own apocalyptic take on new wave. In the video for “Decadence,” director Geoffrey Brent Shrewsbury takes this synth-laden stand-out from the band’s debut album We Are Nots and matches imagery to the band’s unending energy, making the case that Nots aren’t just another Goner band—they’re the next great one.
