Watch Patton Oswalt tell cafeteria jokes in a 1990 short about student loans
Wondering what Patton Oswalt looked like in 1990? Ponder no longer, as comedian turned counselor JC Shakespeare has posted Oswalt’s first paid acting gig to YouTube. Oswalt tweeted that he got paid $300 for the educational video about student loans, and notes that he’s just as embarrassed by the sweater vest he’s wearing as one would imagine. To Oswalt’s credit, his three segments in the video (:30-1:30, 5:40-6:30, and one line at 9:00) are the only watchable parts of the clip, with the other hacky comics doing ill-advised riffs on what it means to be a philosophy major in college (“I think therefore I am… single!”) and, in Shakespeare’s case, laying down some serious, sensible advice on fiscal responsibility. It’s pretty weird.
