Watch the New Trailer For Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey From Assassin’s Creed Creator Patrice Désilets

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, one of the mysterious, long-in-development games from Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets, got a new trailer today for the first time in almost two years.

While what we’re shown isn’t exactly gameplay, this trailer uses in-engine footage, so now we at least have some idea of what the game will look like. Désilets (and the developer’s YouTube page) bill the game as “a third person action-adventure survival game,” in which “the player will relive the early story of mankind with a documentary twist.”

This project should not be confused with 1666, Désilets’ formerly in-development historical, third-person project to which he won back the rights from previous employer Ubisoft this time last year. That game is currently on hold while Ancestors is taking Désilets’ Panache Digital Games’ full attention.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the developer spoke today at the Reboot Develop conference about ditching the previously planned episodic nature of Ancestors in favor of a more traditionally paced, systems-driven approach:

Before it was episodic and that changed the pace, but the content is the same. It’s a bigger game, a bigger world. It was hour to hour, now it’s open and I let the player tell their own stories. There are systems talking to each other, not me taking players by the hand. You’ll create the story of your own ancestors, and maybe it will be different than what science claims.

While there’s still scant information about the the game, perhaps we can expect to hear more at this June’s E3, as the trailer’s description maintains, “Stay tuned much more to come in 2017!” For now, you can check out Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey’s 2015 E3 reveal teaser below.
