Weekend Box Office
The weekend belonged to Bond, with the latest installment of the franchise, Quantum Of Solace, powering to the top spot with $70.4 million. It's the biggest Bond-film debut ever by a wide margin (2002's Die Another Day previously held the title with a $47 million opening), and, along with the still-strong Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa's $36.1 million take at No. 2, propelled the box office to another $100-million-plus weekend. Madagascar's sales also helped it plow past the $100 million mark in its second week.
Solace was the only major new release this weekend, so the remainder of the top 10 remains mostly unchanged, just bumped down a spot: Role Models fell to No. 3 with $11.7 million, High School Musical 3: Senior Year came in at No. 4 with 5.88 million, Changeling at No. 5 with $4.25 million, Zack And Miri Make A Porno at No. 6 with $3.2 million, and Soul Men at No. 7 with $2.43 million. A couple of Halloween horror leftovers, Saw V ($1.79 million) and The Haunting Of Molly Hartley ($1.65 million) both fell a little harder to the Nos. 9 and 10 spots, respectively, each posting a more than 50 percent decline since last week. That made room for The Secret Life Of Bees, which actually moved up a spot to No. 8 with $2.4 million in its fifth week.
