What's on TV this week—House Of The Dragon and The Bear are back

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, June 21 to Saturday, June 27. All times are Eastern.

New this week

House Of The Dragon (HBO and HBO Max, Sunday, 9 p.m., season three premiere) The Dance of the Dragons boogies on in the fiery third installment of this Game Of Thrones prequel, with the long-simmering tensions between Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and the rest of House Targaryen—Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney), and Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) among them—boiling over into outright war. Joining the bloody battle this season are James Norton as Ser Ormund Hightower, Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly, and Tommy Flanagan as Ser Roderick Dustin, the Lord of Winterfell. Look out for The A.V. Club’s season premiere recap on Sunday.

The Bear (FX and Hulu, Thursday, season five) It’s the final service for Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) and FX’s Emmy-winning restaurant dramedy. With Carmy declaring he’s leaving The Bear at the end of season four, Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Natalie (Abby Elliott), and the rest of the crew are left to navigate financial woes, the looming threat of a sale, and one last quest to nab that much-coveted Michelin star before closing time. The A.V. Club’s final season review will drop on Thursday.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix, Thursday, season two) This live-action adaptation of the beloved animated Nickelodeon series wrapped production on its third and final season late last year. But never fear, Aang Gang: There’s still plenty of epic story and two full seasons left. Season two sees Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley) set off on a mission to the Earth Kingdom to master Earthbending and prepare for their perilous battle against Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim).

Life, Larry And The Pursuit Of Unhappiness (HBO and HBO Max, Friday, series premiere) Created by the Curb Your Enthusiasm team of Larry David and Jeff Schaffer—and executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama—this seven-episode sketch-comedy series stars David and a rotating company of notable guest stars (Bill Hader, Kathryn Hahn, Jon Hamm, Sean Hayes, Jane Krakowski, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, among many others) in cheeky reinterpretations of American history, all timed to the country’s big 250th birthday.
