What's on TV this week—Shrinking, Wonder Man, and Bridgerton

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows and streaming films. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, January 25 to Saturday, January 31. All times are Eastern.

New this week

Wonder Man (Disney+, Tuesday, 9 p.m., miniseries premiere)

Marvel’s Simon Williams/Wonder Man gets the live-action treatment with this Disney+ drama led by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, a performer very familiar with the superhero space thanks to HBO’s Watchmen, the Aquaman films, and whatnot. The meta miniseries sees his character, a struggling Hollywood actor, desperate for the main role in the remake of the in-universe Wonder Man film—all the while possessing secret superpowers of his own. Look for The A.V. Club’s review on Monday.

Shrinking (Apple TV, Wednesday, 9 p.m., season three premiere)

Michael J. Fox, Jeff Daniels, and Candice Bergen are among the notable guest stars joining Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, and the rest of the Shrinking crew for the third edition of Apple TV’s series. The new eps will see Segel’s Jimmy Laird attempting to move on from his grief and navigate big changes, from his daughter’s cross-country college move to a potential new love interest (played by How I Met Your Mother pal Cobie Smulders). The A.V. Club will recap the show.

Bridgerton (Netflix, Thursday, 12 a.m., season four premiere)

After some source-material shuffling, it’s finally time for Bridgerton to spotlight Benedict (Luke Thompson) and his Cinderella-esque, mistaken-identity romance with Sophie (Yerin Ha), a beguiling masquerade-ball guest who’s actually a resourceful maid forced into a life of servitude. The first four episodes drop on Netflix this Thursday—as does The A.V. Club’s review—with the rest of the installments following on February 26.

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You (HBO Max, Friday, 3 a.m., streaming premiere)

That Best Actress Oscar may be Jessie Buckley’s to lose, but Rose Byrne’s devastatingly relatable turn as a struggling mother in this Mary Bronstein-directed psychological dramedy is giving the Hamnet star a run for her money. As Byrne’s Linda grapples with her kid’s feeding disorder, her absent husband Charles (Christian Slater), and a gaping, gross hole in her ceiling, she seeks help and understanding from her therapist (played by Conan O’Brien) and a motel employee (portrayed by A$AP Rocky). Memory Of A Killer (Fox, Sunday, 10 p.m., series premiere)

Equal parts devoted father and deadly hitman, Angelo Doyle (Patrick Dempsey) is already leading a perilous double life, one that gets exponentially more complicated when he begins losing his memory to early-onset Alzheimer’s. Symptoms couldn’t come at a worse time, with Angelo’s wife killed under suspicious circumstances and his pregnant daughter in danger from one of his adversaries. Michael Imperioli and Odeya Rush co-star.
