1. Lily Gladstone is back to wow us in Fancy Dance
Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Long after its 2023 Sundance Film Festival premiere, the Lily Gladstone-led Fancy Dance comes to streaming. In Erica Tremblay’s directorial debut, Gladstone plays Jax, who lives with her niece Roki (Isabel DeRoy-Olson). At the risk of losing custody of her, Jax takes Roki on a road trip to find her missing mother. The film also stars Shea Wigham and Audrey Wasilewski. Here’s a bit from The A.V. Club’s review:
Through the film’s grounded depiction of this specific place, it explores both the generational pain and joy of those who live there, building towards quiet scenes of devastation that are further elevated by Gladstone’s nuanced performance.
