Whedon's web-only musical sets a date
Good news, everyone!
According to TV Guide critic and Joss Whedon superfan Matt Roush, Whedon's low-budget, web-only musical experiment, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, is scheduled to roll out in three parts on July 15th, July 17th, and July 19th. For those who want to catch 42-minute extravaganza while it lasts, those dates are important, because the whole thing will only be available through July 20th. From there, Whedon and company plan to put together a features-laden DVD, including what must be the first musical commentary track.
Whedon acolytes who revere the Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode "Once More, With Feeling" will be especially stoked to see him return to a musical of similar length, if more modest scope. It also finds him teaming up with How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris, whose many talents extend to musical theater. (Whedon cast Harris after seeing him in the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins.) Harris plays a mad scientist who's working on a "freeze ray" that's designed to stop time; Firefly/Serenity star Nathan Fillion appears as his superhero nemesis Captain Hammer. Here's the teaser:
