HBO has renewed Sharon Horgan's midlife dramedy for a second season.

Youth will continue to grow at HBO

Youth may be fleeting, but Youth is not. Sharon Horgan‘s critically acclaimed dramedy will continue to observe the unstoppable march of time for another season of laughter and horror. In a statement on the renewal, the Peabody, Emmy, and BAFTA winner said she “can’t think of a better platform to air my UTI problems on” than HBO. Indeed, on the show, Horgan plays a 50-year-old divorcee who attempts to juggle a sex life while caring for her aging parents, parenting a grown son, and beginning her menopause journey.

The show’s winning first season wrapped up last night with a very Horgan series of unfortunate events—mostly driven by the lead’s penchant for choosing chaos. Needless to say, we loved it. Reviewing every episode this season, A.V. Club Editor-in-Chief Danette Chavez gave the finale an “A-,” one of several this season. “The series may have been overly ambitious at times, or rather, overextended, but there’s just so much potential here: for a story about defining modern masculinity when your role model is a woman (I do think, despite his teen-ness, Ruari looks up to Alex), or one about how thorny female friendships can be when they depend on one person being up when the other is down,” she wrote. “Looking back at the past eight episodes, though, Youth‘s first season was more of a romantic comedy than anything: Girl meets boy again (and again and again and again), is anxious about having aged out of being a ‘girl,’ gets some things right and many others wrong.”

Youth‘s first season can be enjoyed in its entirety on HBO Max.
