Zack Snyder has written ten episodes of his The Fountainhead adaptation (so far)

“I have some ideas on how to make it. Strangely, there’s a lot of very powerful, very wealthy people that like Fountainhead,” Snyder told host Josh Horowitz. “So, you know, there’s some places. There’s some interest. Weirdly, I took it around, and it was interesting: I sold it to two companies and then, for whatever reason, they came back to me like a week later and were like, ‘Oh, we can’t do it.’ I think they just [took] it up the flagpole and everyone was like, ‘What? You’re insane! We can’t make Fountainhead. So, I’m excited about that. That’s a reason to make it right there.” As to whether the wealthy, powerful people Snyder mentioned are genuine prospective supporters or just a fun bit of commentary—and whether this “interest” might one day translate into financing his project (or, indeed, influence a streamer or network to buy it)—Snyder didn’t say.

The director has been eager to discuss making The Fountainhead for a decade. He revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in 2016 that he’d been working on the adaptation, and told Horowitz this week that he started writing in 2018. In 2019, Snyder said the political climate might prompt audiences to reject his project, telling Cinema Debate (formerly Comic Book Debate) that “people will think [Fountainhead is] hardcore right-wing propaganda, but I don’t view it like that. I just think the story is super fun and crazy and melodramatic about architecture and sex. It’s about time we get a different president so we don’t take shit so seriously!” At any rate, a TV limited series appears to be the approach the Watchmen director wants to take with his Rand adaptation. “I really feel like it’s a good time for [it],” he said, before laughing, “I wish I had Fountainhead ready to release on the heels of [The Last Photograph]!” Then the smile went away: “I’ve written it as a 12-part [limited series]. I’ve written 10 of the 12 episodes.”
