Apple to revisit history's most infamous "wardrobe malfunction" in Justin Timberlake docuseries

Directed by Fisher Stevens, the upcoming four-part "tell-all" documentary series about Justin Timberlake will include interviews with Janet Jackson about the duo's notorious Super Bowl performance.

Apple to revisit history's most infamous

In 2024, “This is going to ruin the tour” became an oft-repeated catchphrase from Justin Timberlake’s DWI arrest in Sag Harbor, NY. The only problem is, Justin Timberlake never said the meme-ready line, which Page Six misreported. He said, “It’s hard to explain. A world tour. I’m Justin Timberlake.” Nevertheless, it is one of many controversies in Timberlake’s 30-year career, which began as a Mouseketeer on the 1993 reboot of The Mickey Mouse Club. Maybe that’s why Apple hopes to determine whether all the hate is justified in a four-part, “tell-all” documentary series about Timberlake.

Directed by Fisher Stevens, who directed Palmer for Apple in 2021 and the docuseries Beckham for Netflix in 2023, the documentary will revisit Timberlake’s controversial past, including his history of wardrobe malfunctions. Variety reports Janet Jackson sat for an interview for the documentary, and that the series won’t shy away from discussing their infamous 2004 Super Bowl performance. The outlet also reports the documentary will tackle Timberlake’s early relationship with Britney Spears. The two were together from 1999 to 2002, and Spears later revealed in her memoir, The Woman In Me, that she had an abortion at Timberlake’s behest while they were together. “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would’ve done it,” she wrote. “And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”

No release date has been announced. For his part, Timberlake has been out of the public eye for the last year. In 2025, he disclosed a Lyme disease diagnosis, causing him to step away from the spotlight for the time being. Perhaps a documentary series is just what he needs to bring sexy back once and for all.
