Artist starts petition to add Outkast to Confederate monument
South Carolina has removed the Confederate Flag from its statehouse, but despite calls from the NAACP it’ll be slightly more difficult to expunge Confederate symbols from Georgia’s Stone Mountain monument. The monument features the visages of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson, all carved into the side of a 825-foot rock outcropping in a park northeast of Atlanta.
“No problem,” says artist Mack Williams. Williams has started a Moveon.org petition suggesting a reasonable compromise: just add Outkast to Stone Mountain. He’s not suggesting that the state remove or damage the existing carving, just that they throw a little Stankonia on it. Here’s his proposal:
