Channing Tatum tries out his refried Cajun accent as Gambit in Dunkin' ad

The marketing blitz for Avengers: Doomsday has begun as the film nears its December 18 release date, and it has brought about one of Marvel’s strangest team-ups yet: Channing Tatum’s Gambit and H.E.R.B.I.E., the robot spud/house mascot from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In a new Dunkin’ commercial (per Entertainment Weekly), Gambit appears resplendent on a luxurious sofa in New Avengers Tower as H.E.R.B.I.E. floats in with a tray of sugar-addled treats and drinks from the franchise dessert chain. And while such a colorful marketing campaign is hardly new for food chains and Marvel Studios, one thing stands out in the spot: Gambit’s Cajun accent, which Tatum has clearly refined to be more parsable outside the goofy confines of his previous appearance in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. “Doomsday is here, mon ami,” Tatum’s Gambit informs the robot despite looking rather indifferent to the information. “You got any ideas up in that tin-can head of yours?” (Rude!)

H.E.R.B.I.E., smarty-pants robot that it is (it was made by Reed Richards, you know), helpfully explains to the X-Man the concept of “incursions” (a crucial plot point in Doomsday) by using Dunkin’s presumably edible “Doomsday” and “Avenging” Munchkins Donut Hole Treats From Dunkin’ as visual aids. “I gotchu. We need fuel for da fight,” Gambit says, munching on the “Avenging” Munchkin. “Dat’s a winnin’ hand, right thea!”

This “Munchkin Incursion” commercial marks the start of a new and surprisingly thorough collaboration between Marvel Studios and Dunkin’ that will include an updated, character-inspired menu, limited-edition collectibles, additional TV spots, and an “immersive restaurant” experience. (Though, since when are we calling Dunkin’ locations “restaurants”?) That’s right, mes amis: If you live in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, or Boston, you can expect to see one of your 10,000 local Dunkin’s transformed into a unique Marvel-themed “destination”. Beginning November 17, L.A.’s Dunkin’ on 6201 Hollywood Blvd. will be Fantastic Four-themed, while the X-Men set the tone at Chicago’s 10 West Chicago Ave. location; on November 18, New York’s 102 8th Ave. location will be reskinned with an Avengers theme, while Boston’s Allston neighborhood will see a total takeover by the film’s villain, Doctor Doom.

As for Tatum’s creative choices with that, um, complex accent he used in Deadpool & Wolverine, he has his reasons. “It’s hard to explain that to someone that isn’t from the South, isn’t from Louisiana. My dad’s from New Orleans. I’ve been around,” he told EW in 2025. “That accent has a big spectrum. You cannot understand ’em at all, and you can understand ’em at times. So you have to really play with it.” Tatum told Variety that Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo didn’t want him to go “full Deadpool” in the new superhero team-up movie. “They want to keep the drama and keep it tight,” he said. “When Gambit gets serious—when he drops the Mardi Gras mask—things do matter.”
