Rob Lowe, James Franco latest actors to sign on to a Daily Wire movie

Along with Lowe and Franco, Nick Nolte, Brad Dourif, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Jennifer Jason Leigh—three out of the four touted as Oscar nominees in the trailer—join the list of celebrities whose participation in Daily Wire productions invite some serious scrutiny. Recent filming controversies surrounding the company’s pro-ICE action flick Pawn Shop revealed that Danny Trejo, Harvey Keitel, and Henry Thomas are listed among its cast, with Trejo’s children subsequently claiming that their prolific 82-year-old father was tricked into appearing in the rabidly anti-immigrant film. (Various crew members have walked off the production of the low-budget movie once the Daily Wire‘s involvement came to light.)

Franco’s appearance in the film at least makes a certain sense, as previous fellow shunned-for-sexual-creepiness actors like Jonathan Majors and Armie Hammer have recently fled to the conservative fringes once mainstream offers dried up. Still, a cursory glance through the supporting cast’s Wikipedia pages is no doubt underway, as Shapiro’s organization routinely invites the sort of white supremacist, anti-LGBTQ+, misogynist, and otherwise hateful controversies most PR-conscious celebrities try to avoid.
