When he’s not verbally sparring with Larry The Cable Guy across the vast expanses of time, David Cross acts in things, and now he’ll be doing the latter for ABC’s Modern Family. Cross has signed on for a recurring role as a city councilman who battles with Julie Bowen’s Claire in the upcoming third season, as she gets involved in “fighting City Hall.” Presumably Cross’ character will prove the old axiom that you can’t fight City Hall by being sort of condescending or frustratingly dismissive—you know, like a totally imaginary, satirical form of bureaucracy.
