The Deli Boys step into mob life in first trailer for Hulu series

At some point while growing up, most people realize their parents buffed out some of the harsher details of the world to give them an easier life. In Deli Boys, Pakistani-American brothers Mir (Asif Ali) and Raj (Saagar Shaikh) realize that their comfortable upbringing was less the result of their father’s deli than his station in a drug-fueled criminal underworld. Hey, it can happen to anyone.

Fair warning: there are two fairly blunt deaths early into the trailer for this new series, which premieres on Hulu March 6. First, the boys see Lucky (Poorna Jagannathan) shoot a man in cold blood. Then, their father (Iqbal Theba) dies by rogue golfball. It’s the latter event that truly forces the brothers into a world they have been kept deliberately ignorant of. During the remainder of the two-minute clip, we get tastes of Mir and Raj cutting up drugs, trying to execute a hit, and being subjected to some kind of government raid. Of course, all of these things go off-track in a wacky fashion.

Deli Boys was created by Abdullah Saeed, who previously worked as a music journalist and writer for HBO’s High Maintenance. Saeed teamed with Jenni Konner (Girls) and Nora Silver (Single Drunk Female) to develop and produce the series. All ten episodes of the first season premiere on Hulu on March 6.
