Fox delivers the finishing blow to Sleepy Hollow
After mortally wounding its supernatural procedural Sleepy Hollow—by losing the services of star Nicole Beharie last year—Fox has finally delivered the final head-chopping blow to its (very loose) Washington Irving adaptation. Variety reports that the network has canceled the Tom Mison-starring series, with its fourth season, which wrapped up back in March, as its last.
Although often preoccupied with various apocalypses and prophecies, at its best, Sleepy Hollow was often a surprisingly fun, bizarro take on American history. (This is a universe where Benjamin Franklin was a dedicated monster chronicler, and John Wilkes Booth summoned a demon to kill Abraham Lincoln.) Many of the show’s greatest pleasures, though, were derived from the chemistry between Beharie and Mison, although Janina Gavankar did her best as the former’s replacement in the show’s now-final season.
