Hey, Tyrion could still win this thing
[Spoilers for Games Of Thrones season 8, episode 3.]
With the Night King vanquished and his army of undead snow zombies reverted to their previously dead state, the characters of Game Of Thrones can now turn their attention back to the question that’s been at the center of the show since season one: Who’s gonna win that throne, baby? A new video from The Take argues that, despite his recent string bone-headed screw-ups and fans (like us) questioning whether or not he has a place in the show anymore, Tyrion Lannister may still have a shot at ruling the Seven Kingdoms.
There are a number of reasons why Tyrion might end up on top, not least of which is the fact that he’s a fan favorite and it would kick major ass. Additionally, the youngest Lannister has shown over the course of the show that he’s not only halfway decent at governing—which sets him head and shoulders above his colleagues—he also seems to enjoy doing it. George R.R. Martin has said numerous times that Tyrion is his favorite character to write, but, considering Martin’s penchant for killing his darlings, that’s not necessarily a source of comfort.
If you’re the type who likes wildly unfounded fan theories, you may be inclined to think Tyrion’s shot at the throne is bolstered by him secretly being a Targaryen. While this would be quite a twist to thread into the remaining three episodes, The Take makes an effort to show that, from the beginning, Game Of Thrones has been framed around the trajectory of Jon, Daenerys, and Tyrion. These three underestimated outcasts have risen to the top of the food chain in Westeros, and, hm, two of them are confirmed Targaryens. Interesting, that.
