Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham will make a Guy Ritchie-Jason Statham Netflix movie

Duty and adventure often pull them apart, but nothing can keep Jason Statham from appearing in another grizzled, thick-necked, banter-spouting feature with his longtime director and good mate, Guy Ritchie, and we think that’s beautiful. According to a new item from The Hollywood Reporter released Tuesday, Statham is set to star in Ritchie’s latest Netflix project, Dogfight, their first collaboration since 2023’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. The project comes courtesy of Black Bear Pictures, which produced Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Statham’s Shelter. Ritchie’s Toff Guy Films and Statham’s Punch Palace also produce.

With the U.K. production of Dogfight not expected to start until early next year, details are scarce. However, THR notes the film will be “a stylish revenge actioner set in the London criminal underworld,” just in case anyone was wondering whether Ritchie and Statham might try out some new genre just to shake things up, like a fantasy musical or perhaps a costume drama in which Statham plays a butler haunted by regret and burdened by his longing for the head chambermaid. Clearly, it’s the familiarity of the work that keeps Statham and Ritchie coming back to each other, though perhaps Ritchie might do his leading man a solid and write him some fresh rapid-fire patter reminiscent of their first scene together (in 1998’s Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels), instead of going for that stoic badass thing Statham’s been doing for a while now. Just for old times’ sake?
