Kathryn Hahn is officially the bad guy in Tangled remake

Sometimes, you’ve gotta give the people exactly what they asked for. After months of fancasting and rumors, Disney confirmed that Kathryn Hahn will step into Mother Gothel’s crimson velvet robe for its live-action Tangled adaptation. Hahn confirmed her casting with an Instagram video wherein she explained the concept of outfit of the day and revealed herself to be wearing a Mother Gothel 90s-inspired T-shirt.

Deadline had first reported that Hahn was in talks for the role back in February after months of fan speculation and hopes, despite a report that Scarlett Johansson was in talks for the role last October. Hahn will join Teagan Croft, probably best known for her role in DC’s Titan, as Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim from Disney’s Zombies franchise as Flynn Rider. The roles of Gothel, Rapunzel, and Flynn were played by Andrea Martin, Mandy Moore, and Zachary Levi, respectively, in the 2010 animated film. Michael Gracey, director of Better Man and The Greatest Showman, is set to helm the live action remake.

Hahn has already been in the Disney family for a while with her roles in WandaVision and Agatha All Along. She recently won an Actor Award as part of the ensemble in The Studio.
