Ever since Apple TV announced Margo’s Got Money Troubles, based on the novel of the same name by Rufi Thorpe, we’ve known it would star Elle Fanning as Margo, a young mother who resorts to an OnlyFans-type endeavor to make ends meet. The full trailer, which Apple TV shared this morning, offers a fuller explanation of how she got here. Margo was once a brilliant student who had an affair with a professor who sweettalked her and then apparently left her high and dry when a child entered the equation. Margo’s mother is a former Hooters waitress and her father a former pro-wrestler, so it seemed natural to her to perform as HungryGhost, an online model who pretends to have sex with aliens for cash. 

“I hope people really enjoy the show. It’s a family drama, but there’s also, again, it’s very heartwarming and Margo is such a hopeful character,” Fanning previously told Deadline of the series, which she also produces with David E. Kelley, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Nicole Kidman. “She’s dealt these hardships in life, but somehow she always is able to overcome them. And I think she was really inspiring to play because of that and, and the world is just very specific and very fun.”

Pfeiffer and Kidman star with Fanning in Margo’s Got Money Troubles, along with Nick Offerman, Thaddea Graham, Marcia Gay Harden, Greg Kinnear, Michael Angarano, Rico Nasty and Lindsey Normington. The first three episodes premiere on Apple TV on April 15, followed by new episodes weekly through May 20.
