Sarah Jessica Parker welcomes Oh, Mary! to HBO in new teaser

In some news we were expecting but damn if it isn’t still pretty exciting, Oh, Mary! is officially coming to YouTube next year. And to prove it, HBO shared a teaser this afternoon showing the play’s writer and star Cole Escola in costume as Mary Todd Lincoln arriving at the HBO office only to be greeted by not one but two of the Sex And The City ladies, who apparently still work there even after the end of And Just Like That. In any case, Oh, Mary! will debut on HBO at some point next year, with an official release date still to come.

“I’m so happy to share this show with a wider audience and spread Oh, Mary! awareness. Knowing about Oh, Mary! is the first step in getting rid of it,” says Escola in a press release. Adds director Sam Pinkleton, “I fell in love with theater as a kid by absolutely wearing out the VHS tapes of Cats and Into The Woods and I am honored to continue that legacy with Oh, Mary! on HBO. Shepherding Oh, Mary! through its many lives (and Marys) has been an ecstatic experience and I’m giddy that the genius of original idiot Cole Escola will now be immortalized on televisions across America and beyond.”

The performance that will be available eventually on HBO comes from London’s West End, where original cast members Escola, Bianca Leigh, and Tony Macht reprised their roles along with Giles Terera and Michael Urie performing as Mary’s Husband and Mary’s Teacher, respectively. If you still haven’t heard, Oh, Mary! follows an alcoholic, batshit crazy version of Mary Todd Lincoln who dreams of escaping her drab life in the White House to return to her true love of cabaret. Hopefully HBO is a good enough substitute.
