Jessica Chastain continues to freak us out in new Other Mommy trailer

Other Mommy, the new horror film in which Jessica Chastain plays both a good mommy and a scary mommy, has a new trailer courtesy of distributor Universal Pictures. For a clip that runs thirty seconds shorter than the first freaky trailer, there’s still plenty of jolts on offer, with the film’s marketing leaning into the surreality of Chastain’s oscillation from being a very pretty, very nice mommy one instant to a spiritually empty and presumably hostile mommy the next. (It also boasts its Blumhouse-Atomic Monster pedigree, in hopes that this replicates the box office success of Obsession and Backrooms.) Chastain stars as mommy Ursula and her sinister doppelgänger; Arabella Olivia Clark plays Bella, the little girl haunted by this not-so-imaginary other mommy; and Jay Duplass plays Ursula’s husband, Russ, who clearly got the short shrift in the fairy-tale names department.

Based on Josh Malerman’s 2024 horror novel Incidents Around the House, the new film from The Boogeyman‘s Rob Savage seems hell-bent on turning childhood’s safe spaces into a carnival of horrors: Bella’s bathtime with good mommy takes a disturbing turn (replete with a xenomorphic bubble bath helmet); Bella says goodnight to other mommy in the darkness of her bedroom; and in what looks to be the showiest, most colorful set piece in the film, Bella’s playtime in the biggest friggin’ ball pit you’ve seen in a minute turns into a whole ordeal. Yet, if Bella’s to be believed, other mommy’s intentions seem pure: “She’s nice.”

You can decide which mommy is the best mommy when Other Mommy drops on October 9. For now, you can watch the new trailer below.
