People Inc. lays off nearly 200 people

People Inc. CEO Neil Vogel has sent a company-wide memo announcing layoffs, according to The New York Times media reporter Ben Mullin. “Today, we are making staffing reductions that affect 195 people across our offices. HR and business leaders have scheduled 1:1 meetings with those who are impacted, and we are committed to a smooth transition. We are grateful to those leaving the company for their contributions,” Vogel wrote in the memo sent Thursday. These cuts represent about 6% of Vogel’s workforce, though their impact on People Inc.’s portfolio of print and online publications, which includes People, Entertainment Weekly, InStyle, The Daily Beast, Travel + Leisure, and Food & Wine, among others, has yet to be determined.

The company’s latest round of layoffs follows the “difficult but necessary” layoffs People Inc. initiated in late 2025, which cut 226 jobs. It also comes after a recent decision not to move forward with a planned $18 billion acquisition of MGM Resorts earlier this month. (“We are done, and I meant that,” MGM Chief Executive Bill Hornbuckle said, according to The Wall Street Journal.) While that choice spares the company from taking on massive, job-hemorrhaging debt, People Inc. continues to tighten its belt. “The rapid changes in media are evident to us all, and require us to be constantly changing as well,” Vogel continued. “We have significantly increased investments in a host of new projects as we continue to align the company with our biggest opportunities. The vast majority of those affected today are in our print and legacy web businesses, as we continue to evolve for a prosperous future.

“We remain optimistic about our businesses and confident in our plans.”
