Ridley Scott's gestating Alien sequel enlists Raised By Wolves screenwriter

In August, Scott told The Los Angeles Times that he’d like to check in on David, the Lawrence Of Arabia-obsessed xenomorph creator played by Michael Fassbender in 2010’s Prometheus and the 2017 follow-up Alien: Covenant. That 2017 film’s modest box office take— roughly half of its predecessor—spelled doom for the prequel series. Months after Covenant‘s release, Alien‘s studio, 20th Century Fox, was consumed by the family-friendly Disney Corporation, and the series was put on ice until Romulus and the FX series, Alien: Earth, which spent far more time musing on the lasting cultural relevance of Ice Age than one might assume.

The sequel to Romulus, which proved itself a modest hit in 2024, still eludes 20th Century Studios. In the immediate aftermath of the film’s release, the studio greenlit the sequel as Fede Álvarez told the press he was working on a continuation but didn’t want to rush it. He’d also be open to co-directing a third Alien Vs. Predator movie with Dan Trachtenberg, who had been busy rebooting the Predator franchise. Then, throughout 2025, Álvarez began to pump the brakes on his Alien participation. His last word on the matter was that he wrote a script and would produce the next movie but wouldn’t direct it.
