Russell Brand found guilty of rape

The charges and trial stemmed from a joint investigation published in 2023, about alleged incidents that happened between 1999 and 2005.

Russell Brand found guilty of rape

After a three-week trial, disgraced comedian Russell Brand has been found guilty of rape. Judge Joel Bennathan delivered the verdict on today in London, following jury deliberations that began on Tuesday. Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault; he was found not guilty on two other counts of rape and on the count of attempted indecent assault count that Brand earned last week, per Deadline. He will be sentenced on Monday, and the judge said today he will receive a “significant custodial term.”

Four women accused Brand of sexual assault and rape in a joint investigation published by The Times, The Sunday Times, and Channel 4 in 2023. The alleged incidents happened between 1999 and 2005, and Brand denied all claims. In April 2025, he was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. The following month, Brand appeared in court and formally pleaded not guilty. The actor was later charged with two more counts of rape and sexual assault from two additional women. Brand’s criminal trial began at Southwark Crown Court in London in October, and the judge found the comedian not guilty of an indecent assault allegation, citing “insufficient evidence.” That charge was downgraded to “attempted indecent assault.” Brand took the stand in late October, saying during his testimony that he felt the media treated him unfairly.
