Sebastian Stan hasn't seen Doomsday but is guessing it's sad

Avengers: Doomsday star Sebastian Stan hasn’t watched the highly anticipated movie—but even if he did, would he tell anyone? “I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how it turned out,” Stan told Decider in a new interview. “I’m sure it’s going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways. We’ll see who makes it to the next level.” Doomsday, in theaters on December 18, follows superheroes from three universes teaming up against supervillain Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.), so casualties are all but guaranteed.

Stan has been a staple in the MCU since his first appearance as Steve Rogers’ best friend Bucky Barnes in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger. He’s worn many hats since then, including Hydra assassin, reformed bad guy, an Avenger, and, most recently, a congressman (if you’re confused by that last role, you should probably watch Thunderbolts* before Doomsday). He’s one of the few actors who has survived extinction-level threats in the MCU and has appeared across all six phases, while also somehow finding time for critically acclaimed non-Marvel roles. Still, Stan’s Doomsday comments should be taken with a grain of salt. Marvel stars are often tight-lipped about almost everything related to their shows and movies, worried they’ll get in trouble for sharing too much. That’s led some people, like Andrew Garfield, to vehemently lie about their involvement. But sometimes, they genuinely have no idea what’s happening beyond their own character’s storyline. Remember when the Avengers: Endgame cast was told they’d be filming a wedding scene, only for it to turn out to be Tony Stark’s funeral, to prevent leaks? It sounds like Marvel followed a similar playbook for Doomsday. A hefty list of over two dozen stars is confirmed to appear in Joe and Anthony Russo’s movie alongside Downey Jr., but even more have yet to be announced. Stan also told French publication Le Journal du Dimanche that he filmed “scattered scenes” for Doomsday without a script—so maybe he really is clueless about what exactly goes down.
