A bittersweet family drama takes shape in our first look at Britbox's The Cadburys

If quality television can come from anywhere, then why not delicious, delicious chocolate? Everybody’s favorite treat is the subject of limited series The Cadburys, which is scheduled to hit Britbox in 2027. Created by Chloë Mi Lin Ewart (All Creatures Great And Small) the series also counts among its executive producers Freddie Highmore, seemingly still dealing with his Charlie And The Chocolate Factory sweet tooth.

The series dunks viewers into the perhaps unlikely vat of intrigue and conflict surrounding the rise of the famous Cadbury family, and the struggles of the family’s eldest sons (played by Toby Regbo and Harry Gilby) to save their father’s failing 19th century cocoa business, presumably by convincing people that adding sugar to chocolate is delicious. Also starring in the no doubt rich and bittersweet tale are Jessican Barden, Felicity Montagu, Adam Hashmi, Oli Green, Alexander Butler, Poppy Gilbert, Ben Hardy, Pearce Quigley, Joanna Scanlan and Mathew Baynton, as rival would-be chocolate mogul Joseph Rowntree.

As this first collection of on-set photos show, nearly everyone in The Cadburys’ cast manages to keep their period finery free from chocolate handprints. And while it’s unknown whether the series will tackle the fateful invention of the Cadbury Creme Egg, there should still be plenty of British prestige goodness to go around.
