As previously reported, Nickelodeon’s sequel to its animated hit Avatar: The Last Airbender (currently featured in TV Club Classic) picks up 70 years after the events of the first series, centering on a girl named Korra from the Southern Water Tribe. In keeping with its focus on a later generation of benders, the show seems to have done some maturing of its own: The animation is more Cowboy Bebop than Pokemon, the settings hew toward modern, slightly steampunk elements instead of medieval, and Korra herself seems to be much more of a brooder than original protagonist Aang. Clearly, Nickelodeon seems intent on having the show grow up with its fans, which is promising.
