Tovah Feldshuh says tension isn't rising on Nobody Wants This set after Adam Brody's Palestine support

Nobody Wants This matriarch Tovah Feldshuh is denying rumors of a strained relationship on set after disagreeing with Adam Brody’s call for a free Palestine. “Tensions are NOT RISING. Profound differences of opinion are. Please do not conflate the two—And none of it will be brought to the set. I deeply enjoy filming NWT and hope we are chosen to go on for a fourth season,” Feldshuh wrote on Threads in response to a post from Azat TV claiming that “tensions are emerging on set” of the Netflix series. These differences of opinion have been playing out publicly since Brody, who plays a rabbi named Noah Roklov (and also Feldshuh’s on-screen son), recently made it explicitly clear that he supports “a free Palestine” and thinks the Israeli government is committing genocide in Gaza.

It’s snowballed into other Nobody Wants This cast and creatives weighing in and stating that they don’t agree with his stance. Show creator Erin Foster told Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast host Amanda Hirsch that their set “is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing. While I love Adam, I also disagree with him. And that’s okay.” Feldshuh, however, was less diplomatic, telling the New York Post, “To accuse the Jewish people of genocide is wild. It’s right out of Hitler’s playbook. You take the victim and you make the victim the perpetrator.”

It’s a conversation that perhaps would be better suited for, well, the actual show, rather than playing out in interviews and social media. When it debuted on the streamer in 2024, Nobody Wants This quickly won people over. The breezy, lighthearted series about an agnostic podcast host and a rabbi falling in love struck gold with 10.3 million views in its first four days of streaming. A second season was quickly ordered, and the show recently returned for a third season. But some argue that it reinforces stereotypes and feels a bit too breezy amid the continued conflict in Gaza. Foster told Hirsch that Nobody Wants This “has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism.” And if the show gets renewed for a fourth season, it’s hard to imagine it suddenly tackling such a divisive topic. “That is why I made this show,” she said. “It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person, and sitting here right now at this time in the world where there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that.”
