Announced on Friday during its “BlumFest New York Comic Con” panel, the SIKTC film is part of Blumhouse’s new production line slated for 2027, a potential new tentpole franchise that the horror label is propping up alongside such buzzy features as Mike Flanagan’s new Exorcist film, a new Blair Witch Project film from Dylan Clark (director of the in-production Portrait Of God with Chase Infiniti), Rob Savage’s Molepeople with LaKeith Stanfield and Ben Mendelsohn, and Curry Barker’s Anything But Ghosts, the young director’s follow-up to this summer’s breakout horror hit Obsession.
Launched at BOOM! Studios in 2019, Something Is Killing The Children tells the story of Erica Slaughter, a “Black Mask” hunter trained by the secretive Order Of St. George to hunt the eponymous somethings that prey on children and chop them up with wicked blades. (There’s far more to it than that, but we’ll let you read the series–it’s good!) The comic is a hot property at the moment: A new prequel novel, Hope Is A Knife, releases October 13. and Dark co-creators Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese were initially attached to an animated series for Netflix until that project was scrapped in 2024. Blumhouse is currently moving forward with its own adult animated series based on SIKTC, with Tynion steering the project. You can read the official synopsis released for the axed Netflix adaptation below:
“When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing, everything seems hopeless. Most children never return, but the ones that do have terrible stories—impossible stories of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows. Their only hope of finding and eliminating the threat is the arrival of a mysterious stranger, one who believes the children and claims to see what they can see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters.”
