2023 was a complicated year for television at large. On one hand, the dual actors and writers strikes earned artists some much-needed headway in the ongoing fight for fair contracts, increased residual payments, protections against A.I., and other necessary industry-wide changes to reflect the needs of the streaming era. On the other, scheduling and budgetary issues resulting from the months-long blackout, as well as streamers’ demonstrated propensity to axe programming willy-nilly, meant that many fan-favorite shows will, sadly, not receive another season.
